It is twenty to forty seedlings sown at high density into a small pot of peat, grown fast under glass, and sold as a fresh produce item with a shelf life measured in weeks.

Those seedlings are competing for the same tiny root volume. Half will fail within days of coming home regardless of what you do. The plant was grown to be consumed, not kept — treating its collapse as a horticultural failure is a category error.
